The future of Blount County lies in the hands of our children.  For that reason, establishing education as a top priority in the community is crucial to ensuring the future of Blount County children – as well as the future prosperity of the larger community.  This is the focus of the Blount Education Initiative.

BEI, based in Maryville, Tennessee,  works with teachers, education administrators, parents, elected officials, area business leaders and community members to achieve its mission of making education the Blount County community’s top priority.  BEI’s kick-off on April 10, 2008, was the result of two years of planning among these individuals who saw a need for developing educational priorities in our community.

Achieving consensus about education’s vital importance, and what forms of support are required to achieve educational excellence, requires an organized, concerted campaign involving information exchange, dialogue, learning and persuasion.  In April of 2009, BEI launched an active, ongoing program of community outreach which centers on creating awareness of critical issues related to education.

Our Mission

The Blount Education Initiative’s mission is to make education our community’s top priority by developing a sustained public awareness campaign focusing on the critical issues related to education, by supporting our local schools in their efforts to provide a top-notch education for all students, and by serving as a bridge between the educational community and businesses to develop meaningful collaborations.
