Our Blount community graduates are all the buzz! A national buzz that is.

Just before graduation, BEI surveyed the seniors at all four high schools in the Blount community to discover how they value education and if they felt a high school education was important. Adults in the Blount community were asked in a survey earlier this year how they viewed the statement ”It’s important to have a high school education” on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the highest, meaning they strongly agreed. After a dismal 7.0 ranking by the adults, our seniors came through. They ranked it as a 9.65. Our students, now graduates, get it. Let’s hope they can pass that message on to others. On a similar question about the importance of a college education, seniors ranked it at 8.26 compared to their adult counterparts at a 7.4 ranking. As for education being the top priority in the Blount community, the young adults ranked it at 8.98 compared to 7.4 by the adults.

Our seniors’ wisdom beyond their young years captured BEI’s admiration but also earned them kudos from a national source. The National School Board Association’s BoardBuzz noted that our students “have certainly put a smile on our faces.” NSBA picked up on an editorial in the Knoxville News Sentinel by columnist Greg Johnson. Thanks to both of these sources for putting a positive spotlight on our students. They’ve earned it.
